Visits

I would be thrilled to come and visit your school!
My books are suitable for Reception and KS1.
I usually do a thirty to forty minute session with each class, reading one of my books, followed by a related activity, and/or a Q&A session on writing books and being an author.

Possible activities include:
Discussion around why being different can be a good thing, how we are all different which makes the world a more interesting place.  We then draw and decorate our own ‘very different’ dragons
or
Discussion and activity around friendship, what it takes to be a ‘good’ friend and what is important in a friendship.
Discussion around inventions, great inventors, and especially female inventors, and what we would like to invent ourselves.
We then come up with and draw our own amazing inventions! We might even imagine how we would turn our ideas into reality.
Discussion around adventure and creating a ‘baddy’ in a book. Creating, describing, naming and drawing our own terrible baddy!
Discussion around bad behaviour and realising that sometimes it is not all that it seems.
Please note that I live in Kent. I can travel further afield, but there will be some travel expenses.
If you would like a school visit, please contact me to discuss details.

Testimonials

"A massive thank you to Rachel for coming in to visit our primary school children. Rachel was so engaging and enthusiastic with the children. They absolutely loved listening to her speak about how she became an author, the process of writing a book and the challenges that come with being an author. The younger children were so excited to listen to the stories and couldn't wait to hear the next one! Rachel was fantastic at answering questions from the children and they seem so inspired by her personal journey. Thank you so much Rachel. The visit was enjoyed by all adults and children in our school."
Amanda Waters, Class Teacher, Istead Rise Primary School
‘World Book day was extra special this year with a visit from Rachel Valentine. Rachel was brilliant with all ages - our youngest children were captured by her story-telling and our older children were inspired by her personal journey.’
Molly Pitcher, Class Teacher, Shipbourne School
"A huge thank you to Rachel for coming into school to talk to the children today. They absolutely loved their time with her and were so enthusiastic and engaged throughout. All of the children enjoyed the story and inventing activity, but I have to say that the thing they loved (and have raved about) the most, was the discussion and questions around being an author and the publishing process. Rachel had them eating out of the palm of her hand. She has absolutely created a class full of aspiring authors!"
Emma Simmonds, Year 2 teacher, Brenchley & Matfield Primary School
"Rachel is such an enthusiastic and engaging author who really brings her stories to life, the children were fully absorbed in the experience and absolutely loved the range of stories and props. Rachel's books were suitable for our Nursery children, as well as pupils in Year 2, who following the visit, really enjoyed becoming mini authors.
Thank you Rachel for such a wonderful day, we would love to have you back next year!"
Anna Terry, Head of Pre-Prep, Aberdour School
"Rachel is a wonderfully exciting, charismatic author who really brings her stories to life. The girls not only loved listening to her read about and discuss the character of Audrey, but they were also inspired to start composing their own stories. In an all-girls school, it was great to see a writer keen to celebrate all the many achievements of females throughout history. It was a pleasure meeting Rachel, and we would happily welcome her back. The staff and the girls were all hugely impressed!"
Oliver Snowball, Headmaster, Eaton House The Manor Girls’ School
"Rachel was amazing with the children and very engaging. A super morning - thank you!"
